Blessed To Have You | Wedding of Dawn and Edward

Dawn and Edward enjoy café hopping, serving in church and spending time with their friends, family and toy poodle, Muffin! They met 11 years ago through a mutual friend from college while they were out for a movie. “We didn't say much then,” they share. “A few months later, we bumped into each other again at Kallang River as we were both canoeists.” That was when the pair exchanged numbers as friends and the friendship grew into something more.

“We text a lot throughout the day as we don't really like talking on the phone,” Dawn tells us of the earlier days. She recalls how Edward would make her laugh and how he would often wait for her after canoeing trainings, before surprising her with favourite chocolates and a ride home together.

THE PROPOSAL STORY
Edward had many ideas for a grand proposal but chose to do otherwise instead. “I felt that less was more and I wanted the whole experience to be earnest and sincere with just the two of us, under a clear night sky by the river while we gazed at stars at a beautiful spot by the Swan River in Perth, Australia.” It all sounds beautiful already, Edward!

“The proposal was simple, sweet, magical and personal,” Dawn describes how they were star-gazing along the Swan River, where he went down on one knee with the "star" in his hand. “I was very shocked and surprised as I wasn't expecting it to happen in this trip,” She continues. Edward had always wanted to share Perth’s beauty with Dawn. He had planned to propose on this trip when they were attending a friend’s wedding and true enough, she didn’t suspect a thing. “I wanted the moment to be perfect and comfortable, no nerves, sweat nor stress. Just something simple and warm, enjoying each other's company and presence,” It was a blessing that the right moment to propose came naturally for Edward.

THE PRE-WEDDING SHOOT
Their photo shoot happened at well-loved locations that held meaningful memories. They captured sights at the University of Western Australia, Fremantle, Cottesloe Beach and Kings Park. “It was great fun to revisit and explore the places that we wanted to take the photos. It was tiring but we enjoyed the whole process.” Dawn and Edward remember. “We had the make-up artist accompany us during the shoot, and the photographer's wife had also tagged along. So it was great as we had helping hands. The wind in Perth was generally very strong so it turned out to be a good decision to have the hair and make up artist with us. She touched up Dawn's hair and make up, and even made alterations to match the outfit and venue.”

Last but not least, Dawn and Edward share two important tips with couples that are also planning an overseas wedding shoot:

  • Plan the route in advance, select venue near or better still, stay at the same hotel as the photographer and make-up artist.
  • Predict traffic conditions and plan your route in the most efficient manner, try to avoid driving 4 hours to a location with only several backgrounds and then another 2 hours to another spot.
